Athlone businesswoman opposed to one-way hopes council plan will work

Athlone business woman Rosie Boles says she hopes Westmeath County Council will be proved right on the one-way system for Church Street in the town.

The Burgess store owner is one of a number of local business people who have expressed serious concern about the proposal to route traffic east to west along the street.

The changes are being made as part of a €3 million euro revamp of the town’s main street which at present has poor pedestrian access and narrow spaces for cars to pass.

The council’s proposal was voted for unanimously at yesterday’s meeting of Westmeath County Council, and work is expected to begin in mid-summer.

Speaking to Shannonside FM today, Rosie Boles says she is still fearful that the system will cause serious traffic issues in and around the town.
