Athlone animal charity takes over management of Kerry-based welfare group

An Athlone animal charity is to take over management of another animal welfare group which has been forced to close.

Athlone SPCA will run Animal Heaven Animal Rescue known as AHAR which has been wound down following after an investigation by Revenue.

An audit by Revenue officials showed that the County Kerry based charity owes more than €130,000 in tax.

Billy Gallagher, chairperson of AthloneSPCA says that both charities will be unaffected by the change of management.

He said the situation in relation to AHAR’s three staff members would be unchanged and the welfare of the 100 animals, mainly dogs, being cared for by the charity wouldn’t be affected either.
