Youths protest over closure of Roscommon youth clubs this summer

A protest is set to be held today at the closure of Youth Work Ireland services across Roscommon.

Funding for the organisation which runs youth clubs in the county has been discontinued and a new provider has been appointed. The decision will see the loss of one full-time position and five part-time within the service which operates clubs for 10 to 24 year-olds. It’s understood that around 180 young people access the clubs every week in Roscommon town, Castlerea, Ballygar, Dysart and Frenchpark and that these will close over the summer.

A protest has been organised for outside a meeting of the Galway Roscommon Education Training Board at its’ headquarters in Athenry today. Eighteen year-old Dominic explains why he’s going to be taking part.
