Over 200 young people in Roscommon and East Galway will lose vital support services with the impending closure of Youth Work Ireland in Roscommon and East Galway.
The service had been undergoing a change of management programme at the request of the Department of Children and Youth Affairs; however just last month, without assessing the progress of that plan, officials informed the Board that it was withdrawing funding of almost €400,000 euro for 2017.
The Board says its sought meetings with officials in an effort to seek clarification, and it has also sought the assistance of local TDs but there’s been little engagement from the Department.
Staff have been placed on protective notice and will lose their jobs in the next week.
