Work has begun on clearing debris from the river Jiggy in Roscommon town.
Roscommon County Council has begun the project this morning, which will involve clearing blockages form the river on the Golf Links road to the close to railway crossing and the Slievenagee water treatment plant just off the Ballinagard road.
Fianna Fail Councillor Marty McDermott says the river Jiggy was the main cause of flooding from Castle Street to the Golf Links road in both 2009 and 2015.

He says clearing will be of great benefit to homes and businesses in the area.
