West Roscommon water will soon be drinkable

Roscommon County Council work to lift the boil water notice in Ballinlough will progress soon into the new year.

Over 3,500 customers on the Ballinalough Regional Water supply scheme have been unable to drink water from their taps since January 2016, after cryptosporidium was detected.

Director of services Majella Hunt says efforts were made to install an interim treatment system, but this was unsuccessful.

She says planning for a long term solution has begun and should move quickly.
