Valuable machinery destroyed in massive Frenchpark fire

It’s estimated that several hundred thousand euros’ worth of damage was caused in a massive fire at Frenchpark on Saturday night.

Shortly after midnight, a blaze broke out at sheds that are part of Pat Lavin Plant Hire, an agricultural contractor’s business at Mullen, just outside the west Roscommon village.

Boyle and Ballaghaderreen fire brigades battled the blaze through the night, until about 8am on Sunday, while the Garda scenes of crime unit were also in attendance.

A man was brought to hospital for treatment on burns and smoke inhalation that occurred while he tried to rescue machinery, but he’s since been discharged.

It’s understood five New Holland tractors, a silage baler and other machinery were destroyed in the blaze, but the exact monetary value of the damage hasn’t yet been determined.

The cause of fire isn’t known, but it’s not thought to have been started maliciously.
