Today is deadline for submission on Ballinasloe waste proposal

Today is the closing date for submission against the waste facility planned for Ballinasloe town.

It’s understood an office manned by volunteers in the town has been taking submission from residents who oppose the move for the last couple of weeks, and an online campaign has also been taking place encouraging people to send in their views by e-mail to Galway County Council.

The proposed waste transfer station which would be operated by Barna Waste would be used to process waste from domestic collection and construction skips before transferring it to another landfill, composting or recycling facility.

Some local residents have voiced concerns of the health risks of a waste facility so close to the town, and safety risks due to increased volumes of heavy trucks which would be used to service the site.
