Thieves steal equipment as firemen attend Roscommon gorse fire

Gardai in Ballaghaderreen are investigating the theft of up to €2,000 euro worth of fire equipment as local services attended a gorse fire in the Gorthaganny area.

Shortly after half past five on Saturday evening, fire teams from Ballaghaderreen, Ballyhaunis, Charlestown and Swinford were called to a bog fire.

Extensive damage to wildlife and habitat was caused by the blaze, which spanned over two kilometeres.

While officers were bringing it under control, equipment understood to include lighting, tools and other fire-fighting equipment was nstolen.

It’s understood the theft occurred at around 8 o’clock.

The equipment was recovered yesterday.

Gardai in Ballaghaderreen are continuing their investigations.
