Taoiseach accepts slower recovery in rural Ireland

The Taoiseach has admitted that some areas of Ireland, especially the Shannonside region, are not doing as well as urban centres, such as Dublin, in terms of job creation.

Leo Varadkar was responding to a question from Roscommon-Galway TD Eugene Murphy about developing more jobs in the region after thousands of jobs were announced in the past number of weeks for the capital.

The Fianna Fail TD claimed that towns such as Boyle and Ballaghaderreen are not enjoying any jobs announcements and the region is suffering as result.

The Taoiseach outlined that unemployment figures in the county are down significantly in the past number of years and that the Business Minister will be visiting all the regions in the coming weeks to discuss the Action Plan for Jobs.

He did concede, however, that some areas are not enjoying the fruits of Ireland’s growing economy.
