Shannonside Extinction rebels say the government needs to tackle climate change

Extinction Rebellion activists from the Shannonside region say governments need to do more than just introduce taxes to tackle climate change.

Hundreds of environmental activists gathered outside the Dail this lunchtime, before delivering a list of demands to four separate government departments.

Protesters will camp in Merrion Square for the rest of the week, with a campaign of “non-violent civil disobedience” planned.

Speaking from today’s demonstration in Dublin, Roscommon resident Julie O’ Donohoe says introducing a carbon tax will make people think about their reliance on fossil fuel,.

However, Julie says governments can do so much more in their decision making on fossil fuel imports and by forcing the companies that do the majority of the damage to chagne their ways:
