An audit is to take place in May on the implementation of 35 recommendations for improved maternity care at Portiuncula University Hospital in Ballinasloe.
Last year the Saolta University Healthcare Group published a report into the births of 18 children at the hospital, including six in 2014 alone.
Errors were discovered in ten cases, and last June the hospital published the external review into maternity services, which called for several improvements.
In a Dáil debate last night, Galway West TD Catherine Connolly asked the government how many of these had been implemented so far and what was the update on maternity care at the hospital nine months on.
Responding in place of the Health Minister Simon Harris, Wexford TD Michael D’Arcy, who is a minister of state at the Department of Finance, claimed that 95 per cent of all the recommendations were now being implemented.
