Roscommon TD warns reduced home help is leading to hospital overcrowding already

Roscommon Deputy Denis Naughten is warning of a major increase in hospital overcrowding this winter as a result of reduced home help.

The Independent TD says information he’s been given from hospital bed managers says there’s been a reduction of 40% in the availability of home help this month, compared to what was available in August of last year.

He says this means there’s a spike in the number of older people who can’t go home and have to continue to occupy hospital beds.

The Roscommon TD’S warning comes in a week which has seen up to 40 people on trolleys at Sligo hospital one of the days, and there was a total of 27 people waiting for admission this morning.
