A Roscommon-Galway TD has called the waiting list for autism services in Athenry “utterly shameful”.
Deputy Eugene Murphy raised the issue in the Dáil this week by reading out a letter from the HSE in regards to a seven-year-old boy seeking an appointment.
According to the letter read by the Minister, the boy is 193rd on the waiting list and may not be given an appointment for four years.
He claims the boy was referred to the Galway-Roscommon ASD Service by Roscommon Early Intervention, and that they do not have a prioritisation system other than the date of referral to the service.
Deputy Murphy is appealing to the Minister for Health to help:
