Roscommon student develops drone that monitors livestock from the air

A student from Castlerea in Roscommon has developed an innovative drone that monitors livestock from the air.

The drone is the result of James Serridge’s final year project, which he says will make life safer and easier for farmers.

James, who grew up on a farm, has just finished his honours degree in Mechanical Engineering from GMIT and manufactured the prototype himself.

The drone uses special cameras and technology to transmit the feed and data back to the farmer and, in time, the drone could reportedly be programmed to follow a specific flight path.
