Roscommon senator wants Irish Rail to make safety of local rail passengers ‘top priority’

Irish Rail is being called on to make sure that the safety of Shannonside passengers on its rail services is its top priority.

Senator Frank Feighan today raised concerns of a rise in the number of anti-social incidents on the Sligo-Dublin rail line.

He claimed that 86 alleged incidents of anti-social behaviors occurred on the Sligo-Connolly line in the last two years.

He also claimed that some passengers were feeling “terrorised” on the line.

Junior Minister Ciaran Cannon, responding in place of Transport Minister Shane Ross, claimed that under new garda policing plans, community garda will now be responsible for speaking with transport providers and identifying anti-social behaviour hot spots:
