Roscommon native elected chairman of Social Democrats

A Roscommon man who’s been elected as chairman of the Social Democrats party says they want to contest in as many constituencies as possible in the next general election, and in all areas of the local elections next year.

Joe O’ Connor who’s from Kilmore in north Roscommon has been living and working in Dublin for the last five years, and became involved with the party shortly after it’s formation in 2015.

The Roscommon, man who works for the trade union Forsa, says he was closely involved with the party’s first election attempts in 2015 and wants to help consolidate their position around the country whenever the next one is held.

Mr O’ Connor says he fully recognises the need for the Social Democrats to expand outside of their Dublin and commuter belt base.
