Roscommon Minor Injury Unit offers alternative to ED overcrowding

The minor injuries unit at Roscommon Hospital is expecting that it will have treated well over 6,000 patients in 2018.

The Injury Unit is open from 8am to 8pm, 365 days per year to treat a wide range of injuries which are non-life or non-limb threatening as an alternative to visiting an Emergency Department. It is staffed by doctors, advanced nurse practitioners and nurses with the average turnaround time for seeing and treating patients less than 60 minutes.

The Roscommon Injury Unit serves patients in the vicinity of Roscommon, East Galway, Westmeath, South East Mayo, Longford, South Leitrim and South Sligo. Maggie Mew, Advanced Nurse Practitioner says people from across the region can access the service.
