Roscommon and Longford have received five call outs from the bomb squad this year

Leitrim is the only county in the Shannonside region not to have a bomb squad respond to an incident this year.

Members of the Ordnance Disposal team had one call out to Granard in Longford to deal with a pipe bomb found inside the front gate of a house.

Roscommon had four call outs, one to deal with a suspect device in Ballina and another a 100 years old grenade found in the back garden of a house in Athlone.

And while Leitrim didn’t have any call outs to the bomb squad a petrol bomb was thrown at a house in Mohill in June.

The EOD is called out to a range of incidents including bombs, hoaxes, false alarms, post-blast analysis and the removal of unstable chemicals.
