Roscommon IFA members at Dublin sit-in

Roscommon IFA chairman John Hanley says he and other IFA representatives are determined to continue a sit-in at the Department of Agriculture.

The sit-in began this week after news leaked from the Department indicated that a compensation package for tillage farmers would be capped with a much smaller amount than hoped for.

Around 30 farmers in Roscommon and another 15 in Longford were badly affected by last year’s poor summer which saws crops of spring and wheat rotting in the ground.

John Hanley says they want to meet with Minister Creed and find out what exactly is being proposed in the compensation scheme.
