Of the three counties in the Shannonside Region, Roscommon first time buyers spent the most on their home in 2018.
Figures released today reveal that the average first time buyer in the county spent €120,500.
Non-first time buyers spent on average €115,000 on houses in 2018.
In Leitrim that average price of a house bought by first time buyers was €113,000 while those buying their second plus house paid on average €111,000.
First time buyers in Longford spent the least on average at €112,750 while those buying their second or more house spent on average €100,000.
The Help to Buy Scheme which helps first time buyers purchase their home is due to cease in December of this year, however there has been calls in the property industry to extend the scheme.
P Burke of Sherry Fitzgerald auctioneers in Roscommon says that the scheme will be of greater benefit to first time buyers next year when house prices go up, allowing builders to build more houses.
