Two Roscommon fire services spent almost ten hours fighting a large forestry fire near Castlerea on Monday.
At about 2.30 in the afternoon, Roscommon fire brigade was called to attend the bog and forest blaze at Drimatemple, Ballymoe.
A large amount of bogland was affected, but Coillte says no significant damage was caused to the forestry itself.
The fire proved difficult to put out because of strong winds and Ballaghaderreen fire brigade was called to take over from their Roscommon counterparts at about 8 o’clock yesterday evening.
They remained at the scene until after midnight when it was eventually brought under control.
No injuries were reported and an investigation into the fire has been launched.
