Roscommon fire chief claims no obvious cause of devastating Frenchpark bogfires yet

Roscommon Fire Chief John Keane says there’s no indication yet as to why or how fires on bogland in the Frenchpark, Ballinagare area started this week.

The Roscommon Fire Chief is appealing to people working on the bogs to watch out for any issues with fires and to report them immediately.

John Keane says several acres of bogland have now been burned in the fire, and there was concern last night that it could affect mature forestry which is very close to some houses in the local area.

Speaking to Shannonside news, Mr Keane says the fire is mainly under control today, but they are likely to remain in the area for some hours to monitor any fresh outbreaks…
