A Roscommon farmer has described comments by the Minister for Agriculture that talks about the beef crisis “successfully concluded” as disgraceful.
Members of the beef plan movement are to meet over the coming days to examine proposals and agreements made in talks between the beef industry and farming groups such as the IFA and Teagasc.
Some progress was made in relation to a review of the grid, and a review of the in-spec criteria for the quality payment system bonus.
However frustration has been expressed that no clear commitment to improved beef prices was acknowledged by factories, and no increase on the money paid to farmers for their animals was agreed.
Sean Gormley, who spent two weeks on the picket line outside the Kepak factory in Athleague as part of the beef plan movement’s protests outside processors earlier this month.
