Roscommon councillor Rachel Doherty not to contest local elections

Roscommon Fianna Fail councillor Rachel Doherty has announced that she won’t be contesting next year’s local elections.

The daughter of former Fianna Fail TD and Senator Sean Doherty was first elected to the local authority in 2004 and has served the Boyle electoral area for the past 15 years.

In a statement issued late last night Councillor Doherty says that in recent years the workload of a County Councillor has become more demanding and that it is now essentially a full time job.

She says that regrettably she is not in a position to serve for another five years due to her increasing work commitments in Failte Ireland.

Councillor Doherty had been nominated to take part in the selection convention for the Boyle Electoral area which will take place shortly.
