A Roscommon councillor will be asking the local authority to include a note for people approved for planning permission for new homes to remind them

A Roscommon councillor will be asking the local authority to include a note for people approved for planning permission for new homes to remind them of the need to register their waste water system.

Regulations passed in 2012 require all new systems to be included on ProtectOurWater.dot.ie, within 90 days of occupying the house.

It becomes particularly important if a homeowner is seeking grant aid to repair or upgrade their system in the future - as funding is not approved without it and registration cannot be backdated.

Councillor Paschal Fitzmaurice says many people aren't aware of the situation.
