The head of Roscommon's Civil Defence says he's looking forward to the future development of a new building and receiving new equipment for the service in the coming weeks.
Over 30 members were fully trained and on standby during the pandemic to provide a back up to the ambulance service should the health system become overwhelmed.
While that was not utilised, officers were engaged in the transportation of the Covid tests to Dublin and Naas and also the distribution of PPE equipment across Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal.
Civil Defence Officer Fergal Conroy says they will remain on standby if there is a second surge but for now they can work on upskilling and re-certification and look forward to new facilities and equipment.
