Roscommon chemical company taken off EPA’s National Priority List

A Roscommon chemical company has been taken off the EPA’s ‘National Priority List’.

Arran Chemical Company, based in Monksland in Roscommon, is no longer identified as one of the poorest performing sites in terms of environmental compliance.

The company specialises in the manufacture of products for pharmaceutical and health care, flavour/fragrance, and other specialised chemical and industrial applications.

Arran Chemical was listed from last October until this March because of persistent release of emissions to the air and groundwater.
The list, which is published on a quarterly basis reveals Quinn Cement Limited in Cavan is third in priority at present for the Enviornmental Protection Agency.

The list is formed via a point system whereby points are allocated to sites on their level of compliance, non-compliance, number of complaints and incidents.

Sites which exceed a certain point threshold become a target for the EPA for further action.
