Roscommon carers representative says some people are being “crippled” by Fair Deal Scheme

A Roscommon carers representative says it would be immoral if farmers lose their farms over the Fair Deal scheme.

Bernie Dowling claims that the scheme is “crippling” some farmers and small business owners.

Ms Dowling, who is the area manager for Family Carers’ Ireland in Roscommon, made her comments after farmers protested in Dublin yesterday calling for a promised cap to be implemented.

It’s also been revealed that the scheme, which helps pay for nursing home costs, is facing a funding crisis with spending expected to reach €1billion this year.

Bernie says with the upcoming local elections everyone on the doorsteps should support farmers and home carers on this issue.
