The Rosalie Unit in Castlerea is to close its doors today.
The two remaining residents are being moved to Aras Mhathair Phoil older persons care centre in the town.
The HSE announced the closure of the community psychiatric centre in April stating that its services were no longer required for the majority of the thirteen residents.
It brings to an end a four-year campaign with residents moved to older persons homes in Galway, Mayo and Roscommon – and four subsequently dying since their move.
Up to 20 of the 24 staff employed at Rosalie are now unsure of their roles going forward and the HSE and unions are taking their dispute over future working arrangements to the Workplace Relations Commission early next week.
Castlerea Councillor and Cathaoirleach of Roscommon County Council Paschal Fitzmaurice says it’s a sad day for the town.
