A new report shows four prisoners serving sentences in Castlerea prison died in custody between 2007 and 2016.
Information obtained by the Belfast-based website the Detail reveals one prisoner was found dead on the street after being granted temporary release in September 2013.
Another prisoner, who was serving a life sentence died, of a terminal illness while on temporary release in 2012 and one prisoner in 2009 took his own life.
The Roscommon coroner also recorded three deaths connected to Castlerea prison between 2007 and 2016, two of which were recorded as death by hanging, and another was by misadventure.
In total 173 prisoners died while serving sentences in Irish prisons since 2007.
