Retention permission sought for Ballagh energy plant

The developer of the controversial waste-to-energy facility in west Roscommon is applying for planning permission to retain the €8-million development.

Biocore Environmental had completed work on the anaerobic digester at Tibohine, near Ballaghaderreen, when Roscommon County Council issued an enforcement notice in November claiming unauthorised development had taken place.

It ordered work to stop immediately and to remove all unauthorised elements by February 21st.

Planning permission was granted for the development in 2013, but the council claims the actual development differs from the original plans.

Biocore confirms work has stopped on the development, but says it will apply within the next week to the council for planning permission to retain the works already built.

Local Sinn Féin councillor Michael Mulligan strongly opposes the Tibohine plant.
