The Chairman of the newly renamed Save Our Shannon Organisation says the flooding on the Shannon callows for the second consecutive year is doing untold damage to wildlife and tourism prospects in the areas affected.
The group has been known formerly as the Mid Shannon Flood Relief Group and it was established following the flooding along the river in recent years.
Michael Silke says the groups remit has broached over the last few years and a lot of new people have joined so they decided to change the name to reflect that.
He says while a lot of flood relief work has been talked about in recent years and plans have been developed for some towns and villages the rural areas have been left out of the picture.
