Power restored to 12,000 ESB customers as loss of internet and phone networks also cause chaos

Power has been restored to over 12,200 customers in the Shannonside region.

The ESB says a fault this morning at the Athlone station caused three substations to trip – Roscommon Town, Ballygar and Glenamaddy.

Phone and internet networks were also down in a number of areas today.

Power was restored gradually throughout the day as crews worked through the system and full service was restored to all areas by four o’ clock this afternoon.
