The General Manager of Portiunucla hospital is querying figures released yesterday about the hospital under the National Healthcare Quality Reporting System Annual Report.
The figures revealed yesterday showed the Ballinasloe hospital as having the second highest mortality rate for heart attack victims around the country.
General Manager James Keane says following improvements in the method of data collection at the hospital throughout 2018, the heart attack mortality rates in Portiuncual are seen to be in line with national averages.
He said when last year’s report was published they undertook a review of all cases reported during that time because the report didn’t seem to reflect what was being seen in clinical practice.
Mr Keane said some issues were identified with the data collection methods and a number of measures were put in place to improve the accuracy of the information collected.
The hospital manager says that since the Healthcare Quality Reporting System publishes data from a rolling three year period, the accurate data will be reflected in future reports.
