Pope’s visit stimulates growth at Knock airport

More than a hundred million people worldwide watched the Pope as he landed at Ireland West Airport giving it a huge publicity boost.

The pontiff’s historic trip to the west to see the Marian Shrine at Knock attracted global publicity to the airport that money couldn’t buy.

And according to head of marketing, Donal Healy, the pontiff’s visit help to realise the vision of the airport’s founder Monsignor Horan.

Although the pontiff’s schedule was tight while at the airport, he took the time to greet all the people assembled to greet him, including local children.

Mr Healy remembers the visit fondly.
