Plans underway for expansion at Lough Key Forest Park

Plans are underway for a greater expansion of amenities at Lough Key Forest park.

The park took gold in Best Public park category at the annual All Ireland Community and Council Awards at the weekend.

The development of amenities including playgrounds, a zip line, the Boda Berg challenge, as well as new marinas and woodland and tree top walks has seen visitor numbers increase from 5,000 in 2007 to 150,000 now.

Louise Fitzmatrick is Manager of Lough Key, says developing canals in the park will form part of their expansion so the area can realise its potential as a key destination within Hidden Heartlands.
