Nurses’ strike hits Castlerea lung-disease sufferers

A Castlerea man had two hospital appointments cancelled this week because of the nurses’ strike.

Seamus O’Brien has the lung disease COPD and was due to attend a respiratory clinic in Merlin Park University Hospital in Galway on Tuesday.

He also has diabetes and was scheduled to attend a clinic in Roscommon University Hospital today.

Mr O’Brien still supports the nurses despite being directly affected.

Castlerea’s Henry Hughes also faces having his appointment cancelled in the COPD clinic in University Hospital Galway next Tuesday.

A three-day nurses’ strike is due to begin that day.
