The bus service put in place by the National Transport Authority between Athlone and Westport earlier this year is performing well.
That’s according to the Chief Executive Office of the NTA Anne Graham who says that while there are no specific figures available yet on regional services, they are being told that it is being well used.
The service was put in place this summer after concerns that the Bus Eireann route was going to be axed because of losses.
Figures released nationally today by the NTA show a 7% growth in passenger numbers on publicly-funded public transport services across the country.
Anne Graham says there’s also been a very positive reaction to a new service they introduced for Athlone town in the past year, and they are hoping to provide a similar scheme in Mullingar this year.
