No decision on future of Castlerea fire station until after another report – CEO

The CEO of Roscommon County Council claims he is waiting for another report into Castlerea fire station before deciding if it will re-open.

The west Roscommon facility is closed almost three years, due to staffing issues, and the Council is believed to have met with senior fire personnel yesterday to discuss its future.

An update was expected at the monthly local authority meeting on Monday afternoon, but the matter was only raised by Councillor Michael Mulligan towards the end of proceedings.

When he asked CEO Eugene Cummins about the meeting, the Council’s most senior officer revealed that he had made no decision on whether to re-open the station or not and he was awaiting the outcome of another report

He also claimed that any meeting between the executive and members of staff is an executive matter and is not really the concern of anyone else out there , especially people who are not an elected member.
