New Roscommon hospice gets green light from planning authorities

Plans for a new hospice for county Roscommon have been given the green light.

Roscommon County Council has granted planning permission for the 8 bed centre to be located beside the hospital on the Athlone road.

All eight suites will include private outdoor spaces for each resident and the unit will also have daycare facilities, social work and alternative therapies.

There were no formal objections to the proposal, so it’s hoped it can proceed without any further referrals to An Bord Pleanala.

The project will be funded entirely by the charity which is hoping that after a competitive tendering process it will not exceed €6 million euro.

Roscommon Mayo Hospice is now preparing tender documents for the project.

CEO Martina Jennings says it’s a great day for everyone involved.
