New lanes on N4 at Cootehall and Croghan get go ahead

Transport Infrastructure Ireland has approved the installation of new right hand lanes at both the Cootehall and Croghan junctions on the N4 between Boyle and Carrick-on-Shannon.

TII executives were provided with data on traffic volumes and the number of collisions on this section of road in the last week, the executives told the meeting that right hand lanes are justified at the junctions.

The data was gathered by community representatives following on from a public meeting last month which was attended by over 150 locals concerned that the information on the garda pulse system was not reflective of the number of acutal crashes that occur in the area.

TII says it will fund the works once a planning and design report is prepared.

It is hoped that all these works will be carried out by the end of next summer following a planning and design process.

TDs Michael Fitzmaurice, Eugene Murphy, and Senators Frank Feighan and Maura Hopkins have all welcomed the announcement praising the efforts of the local community and their representatives for their work.
