A new daily boat service for people with mobility issues is set to be launched in Ballyleague/ Lanesboro next year.
The Lough Ree Angling hub has confirmed that it has secured a manufacturer for a special boat to be designed and built in Estonia which will allow six passengers in wheelchairs to take trips across Lough Ree and its many islands daily.
The boat is expected to cost in excess of €180,000 and the group has already secured grant funding for its purchase
It’s hoped that it will be delivered and ready to operate on the Lough Ree for summer 2020.
Andy Burnett from the Lough Ree Angling hub told Shannonside FM it’s a very exciting development for the region.
