New figures show almost 100 children in state care were without an allocated social worker at the end of last year.
Children’s Minister Katherine Zappone has revealed that, of the 414 children in Tusla’s care in Galway/Roscommon, 57 hadn’t been allocated an aftercare worker.
There were 397 children in the child and family agency’s care in the midlands last December, with 42 without a designated social worker.
However, all of the 103 children in Tusla’s care in Sligo/Leitrim/west Cavan had been given an aftercare worker.
Marian Keigher, a director of services at Vita House family centre in Roscommon, is concerned about the figures in the Shannonside region.
