Murphy ‘disappointed’ no contest in Roscommon convention

Fianna Fáil Roscommon-Galway TD Eugene Murphy has expressed his disappointment there will not be a contest at tonight’s selection convention ahead of the next general election.

It was confirmed yesterday that Murphy would be unopposed to take his place on the ballot paper at the next Dáil vote after four challengers who were nominated to stand pulled out.

The party has pursued a one-candidate strategy in other constituencies, but following boundary changes, which has seen 7,000 voters who were previously in Roscommon shifted to east Galway, it is suggested that another candidate may be added at a later.

Deputy Murphy agrees that may be a wise choice.
