Minister Naughten rejects suggestion that the HSE is looking to close Rosalie Unit

Roscommon Minister Denis Naughten says he still believes the HSE does not have plans to close the Rosalie facility in Castlerea.

The Roscommon TD was speaking ahead of another public meeting in the town tomorrow night to discuss concerns about the fact that the amount of residents at the unit has dropped down to just 13.

The unit is a 30-bed facility and caters for older people with dementia and mental-health related issues.

A ban on new admissions has been in place for some months and this had led to fears the unit is being earmarked for closure.

Minister Denis Naughten says he and other politicians had received assurances when similar concerns were raised in 2015 and he has no reason to believe that the situation will change….

Minister Naughten also revealed this afternoon that the reason the opening hours of the Medical Assessment Unit have not yet been extended is down to the issue of recruiting extra staff.

He says the funding has bene put in place for the extension of the hours to later in the evenings and at weekends but the necessary staff have yet to be found..
