Michael Fitzmaurice enters ‘pairing arrangement’ with Tanaiste ahead of ‘no confidence’ vote

Roscommon-Galway TD Michael Fitzmaurice has confirmed that he has entered a pairing arrangement with the Tánaiste ahead of tonight’s vote of no confidence in the Housing Minister.

The Independent TD agreed to Simon Coveney’s proposal for what he claims is the “national interest.

The arrangement means that neither man will vote in this evening’s motion, which the government is expected to win.

Deputy Fitzmaurice also confirmed that he would have voted for the Social Democrat’s motion of ‘No Confidence’ in Minister Eoghan Murphy but has queried the desire among voters for a Christmas week election.

Constituency colleague Denis Naughten has not revealed his intentions in tonight’s vote, with reports suggesting he is still consulting with close political allies in relation to the vote.
