MEP hopeful claims independents have opportunity to make a real difference in next parliament

A former senator, who is one of 17 candidates vying for a seat in the Shannonside region’s European election constituency believes Brexit presents a huge opportunity for any successful Irish election hopefuls

Fidelma Healy Eames declared her intention to run as an independent just last weekend – looking to secure one of the four seats on offer in the Midlands NorthWest constituency.

The Brexit extension means the UK will have to contest the European elections next month, but depending on what may develop in the next six months, those elected in the UK may never take their seats in the parliament.


The current NUIG employee claims that independents in the European elections have a great opportunity to make a difference.
