Matt Carthy says he’s not rejecting people who voted for him as EU member

Sinn Fein MEP Matt Carthy is disagreeing with suggestions that he’s rejecting the voters of the midlands north-west EU constituency who elected him to the EU parliament just a matter of months ago.

The MEP has now announced he will contest the SF convention to run for the party in Cavan Monaghan in the general election.

Matt Carthy who has strong Roscommon links says people who voted for him in the EU parliament will still be represented no matter what happens.

He told the Joe Finnegan show he had never made any secret of the fact that he would be a possible candidate in a future general election.
