Massive overspend by HSE in Roscommon

The Health Service Executive overspent its budget in the Roscommon region by nearly €14 million in the first ten months of last year.

The largest deficits across the Galway, Mayo and Roscommon area were in primary care and social care, with shortfalls of €6 million in each sector.

This was mainly because of the cost of employing agency staff, while another factor was expenditure on the emergency reception and orientation centre in Ballaghaderreen. There was also an overspend of €2.2 million in mental health in the same period.
